A restored 1919 plantation style building, once the site of Paia’s historic Hew Store and a remnant of the 1946 tsunami, is the surviving sun kissed architecture of the boutique and gallery called Puka Puka.  Named after the utmost remote atoll in the South Seas and the utopia of a castaway novel written in the early twentieth century, Puka Puka presents unique objects, jewelry, fashion, interior and music adjacent to fine art and limited edition prints.  The subject of the inaugural show is, the “premier surf culture artist” and founder of Surfer Magazine, John Severson.  Severson is the original Maui wave rider and his exhibition, Planet Wave, will include paintings, watercolors, and block prints contextualized by his pioneering psychedelic surf film Pacific Vibrations
