Where are the trash receptacles?
The rubbish removal grant program for Paia is up and running. We have six trash receptacles in heavily used public spaces: the post office, two in the Baldwin Avenue public lot, two in Hana Highway public lot, and one next to Nuage Bleu. Trash removal is ONCE a day, by long time Paia resident Rory Pico. Currently, the program is on a limited county grant, and the receptacles made with cannot be placed on Hana Highway due to the size of the sidewalk. Hopefully, with funds from the Special Improvement District, the PTA can purchase additional trash receptacles, that will cost more than the ones we have, but will be the appropriate size and material to be installed on the sidewalk.
Where can I park in Paia?
Paia has public and private parking areas. All public parking is limited to one or two hours a day. Some merchants have private lots with validation. If you cannot find free, street parking, paid parking is available behind Paia Town Center, and paid boxes by Paia Plaza and the Paia Post office. FYI: Lunchtime is very busy. You may need to park near Paia Bay and walk into town...a five to ten minute walk. Please drive with Aloha. There's only one traffic signal at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Hana Highway controlling both foot and vehicle traffic.
Is there public transportation in Paia?
Yes. We have four bus stops throughout town. Headed toward Hana the bus stop is near the entrance of Paia, and one more after Charley's. The other stops headed west towards Kahului is located near Indigo gallery and Puka Puka. Fares cost $2 and here is the link for the schedule. Also, Maui has Uber, and we see taxis drop off and pick up.
